Safety first! How to apply exterior wall tiles so they won’t fall off

Release time:2024-10-28click:1

After buying a commercial house, the decoration is inseparable from laying ceramic tiles on the floor and walls. You don’t need to worry about the exterior wall tiles. However, it is different when you build a house. When laying ceramic tiles indoors, you must also consider the exterior walls. On the one hand, exterior wall tiles can make the appearance of the house more beautiful, on the other hand, they can also be waterproof and moisture-proof, protecting the exterior wall of the house. But tiling exterior walls is not a trivial matter. In view of the frequent incidents of falling off exterior wall tiles and injuring people, the safety issues cannot be ignored.

Today, China Ceramics Network will share with you the steps to install exterior wall tiles on a self-built house and the key points to ensure that they do not fall off.

1. Processing the construction base

1. Clean the dust on the base layer before construction. If necessary, rinse with clean water and dry before construction.

2. The flatness of the base layer must also meet the requirements, the protruding areas must be smoothed, and the depressed areas must be filled with mortar.

3. If it is a concrete wall, brush the wall first before construction, then water the wall to wet it or apply an interface agent to improve the bonding strength of the surface.

2. Plastering the base layer

1. Before plastering, the interface agent should be sprayed on the wall surface. If the wall is too dry, it can be moistened in advance. After the surface agent has dried slightly or completely, you can start plastering.

2. Plastering should be done in layers. The first layer, which is the bottom layer, must be applied evenly, with a thickness of about one centimeter. After the bottom layer is painted, water it and moisten it. When the wall is almost dry, you can apply the next layer. After the second layer is applied, it should be smoothed with a tool and watered the next day to moisten it. If necessary, you can also apply a third layer as above.

3. There are two important points to pay attention to when plastering the base layer: the first is that every time a layer of plaster is completed, it must be watered and moistened; the other is that the surface must be smooth and the plaster must be even. Only if these two points are achieved can the stability of the subsequent tile installation be ensured.

3. Paste exterior wall tiles

1. Before laying tiles, measure the wall surface to determine the location of the tiles. After confirming, arrange the bricks, to ensure neat paving. After arranging the bricks, draw the dividing lines between the bricks to ensure that the tiles are horizontally and vertically.

2. Soak the tiles in water first and let them dry. When pasting, it must be successful at the first time. It is best not to move, otherwise it will affect the pasting effect.

4. Caulking and seaming

1. Caulking of ceramic tiles: After the paving is completed, there will be gaps between bricks, which need to be filled at this time. There are two ways to fill the gaps. You can use cement mortar to apply it carefully in the gaps, and then wipe the mortar on the surface of the tiles. You can also wet the surface of the tiles first, let it dry and then use cement mortar to smear the joints. After solidification, clean the mortar on the tile surface. Then wipe it clean with a damp cloth and let it dry.

2. Tile jointing: After paving and caulking are completed, there will always be unevenness, and jointing is necessary at this time. Use a professional hook to smooth out the uneven areas, and then wipe the surface of the tiles clean with a clean rag.

5. Cleaning and Maintenance

A large amount of cement mortar is used when laying ceramic tiles, so there will be a lot of cement mortar marks after the construction is completed. About one day after completion, you can check the degree of solidification of the cement mortar in the joints of the exterior wall tiles. If it has solidified, you can use clean water to rinse the entire surface. However, the specific construction depends on the weather conditions. If the air is humid, it will take a long time for the cement mortar to solidify, so flushing will have to wait a few more days.

When we are doing construction, we must follow the steps and not cut corners. Only in this way can we ensure that the tiles will not fall off in the future. I hope that the content compiled by the editor about tiling on the exterior walls of self-built houses can be helpful to everyone.
