Hubei accelerates water conservancy construction to contribute to stabilizing the province's economy

Up to now, the civil and metal construction of the main part of the Nianpanshan hub project with a total investment of 6.636 billion yuan has been basically completed, and the water storage acceptance of the lower gate will be carried out next week. At present, the first unit of the project has completed the installation of the main body, hydraulic auxiliary system, electrical equipment, etc., and is about to be connected to the grid to generate electricity. The project is an important part of the cascade development of the Han River and one of the 172 major water conservancy projects for water conservation and water supply by the State Council. After the project is completed, it will be able to generate 616 million kilowatt hours of electricity every year.

Water conservancy projects are conducive to expanding domestic demand, stabilizing investment, and stabilizing the fundamentals of the economy. This year, Hubei Province will dispatch 8 major projects such as Qishui Irrigation District and Shiyan Central City Water Resources Allocation to complete annual construction tasks, and strive to start construction of 8 new major projects such as diversion of the Yangtze River to replenish water along the Han River and the safety construction of Honghu East Block , to promote the preliminary work of six major projects, including the Wuhu Lake, Zhangdu Lake flood storage and detention areas, and the Four Lakes water network comprehensive management and construction project. In addition, Hubei Province will also accelerate the construction of four types of water conservancy projects, including the management of major tributaries and small and medium-sized rivers, the elimination and reinforcement of reservoirs, and the transformation of medium-sized irrigation areas, to ensure a good start in the first quarter.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Provincial Department of Water Resources, in 2022, Hubei Province’s water conservancy investment bucked the trend and hit a record high. The investment completed throughout the year was 59.75 billion yuan, an increase of more than 53%. At the same time, Hubei insists on using both hands to expand investment and financing channels. Last year, the province's water conservancy investment utilized social capital of 21.9 billion yuan, ranking third in the country.
